EG1000EX - Dual Fuel, Stainless Steel Range Cooker from HotPoint
Hotpoint is the front runner in white goods brand in UK and has been voted as UK’s most trusted domestic appliance brand every year for the past eight years in the annual Readers digest Survey. Hotpoint EG1000EX range cooker is one of the best in the current range cooker market.
Hotplate:
The hotplate of the Hotpoint EG1000EX has one large wok burner, one large burner, two medium burners and one small burner. The EG1000EX has a dual zone ceramic plate. All the hotplates would accommodate pans between 100mm and 200mm diameter whereas the wok and the large burner will accommodate pans of up to 260mm. Heating occurs only within the zone marked on the hob. The heating zone has a safety cut out that prevents the ceramic glass from overheating which is a great feature, in addition, if after several minutes on full power without a pan, then the cut out will switch the heating element on and off to avoid any damage to the ceramic glass.
Hotpoint EG1000EX ’s ceramic plate control is designed to provide variable heat control to either the full oval of the plate or just the circular section. Turning the control knob clock wise will switch on the full oval and turning the control knob in the anti clock wise will switch on just the circular zone.
The left-hand fan oven has a hinged door and delayed start function whereas, the right-hand conventional has a drop-down door; both ovens have catalytic linings, 5 shelf positions and non-tip shelves.
Automatic cooking:
The oven timer of the Hotpoint EG1000EX Dual Fuel Range Cooker offers you features like the time of the day, automatic cooking and minute minder. The main oven can be controlled automatically. For this, you will have to select the foods that would take the same time to cook and set the oven timer so that the food is just about to finish cooking on your return to the oven. Cook period is the actual length of time for which the timer will switch the oven on as a part of an auto cooking programme. You can even set the end time to the time of the day at which you want the programme to end. With the minute minder function, you will be able to set a time period of up to 23 hours 59 minutes, that will count down.
A bell symbol lights up when you select the minute minder period and will remain lit for the period set. At the end of the minute minder period, the timer emits an audible tone and the bell symbol disappears. The cookpot symbol ignites either when the timer is in the manual mode or during the actual cook period. The ‘AUTO’ symbol flashes at the end of an Auto Cooking programme to indicate that the program has finished. All the indications provided are very helpful for automatic cooking.
Twin grill:
Hotpoint EG1000EX ‘s the grill control is designed to provide variable heat control of either the full width of the grill of just the grill half. Turning the control knob clockwise will switch on the full width and turning it anti clockwise will switch on just the half grill. The grill pan handle is detachable from the pan to facilitate cleaning. But it seems to be fussy to clean and the pan supports are difficult to handle. The inner glass panel of the oven doors are removable.
The slow cook setting:
With the fanned oven thermostat set to 90 degree, the oven can be used for slow cooking. The warming compartment is situated at the bottom right hand side of the cooker. It can be used for keeping the plates or food warm and is not designed as a slow cook oven.
The fan oven:
The heating of the oven in EG1000EX Stainless Steel Range Cooker is achieved by turning the control knob clockwise to the required temperature. The pilot light is lit immediately and will go off immediately off and on during cooking as the thermostat maintains the temperature.
The fan oven heats up quickly, but temperature accuracy is patchy. Since the fan oven heats up quickly, pre-heating the oven goes unnecessary. The shelves fit tightly and squeeks as you rearrange them. You cannot see through the tinted windows of the grill and warming compartments.
Installation:
The installation of Hotpoint EG1000EX range cooker must not be a problem for you as each of the setting is clearly explained in the manual that is provided with clear pictorial explanations.
Warranty:
Hotpoint EG1000EX comes with a warranty from hotpoint for 12 months.
Verdict:
The separate grill, warming drawer and ceramic plate are the selling features of the Hotpoint EG1000EX range cooker, but the poor pan support coating and not clean friendly hob are its disadvantages. Since the features are very high, this high end range cooker from hotpoint is certainly recommended.
